Regulatory Authorities
In order to meet the requirements for a fair competition in the supply with electricity and gas, the Bavarian Regulatory Authorities (Landesregulierungsbehörden) and the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) which is seated in Bonn are competent for the regulation of the electricity and gas networks.
In Bavaria the responsibilities of the Bavarian Regulatory Authority are carried out independently by the "Bavarian Ruling Chamber" since 01.02.2013.
However, the Bavarian Regulatory Authorities are not competent for the examination of energy prices for final customers. Objections to excessive energy prices for final customers will continue to fall into the jurisdiction of the respective Bavarian Competition Authorities (Landeskartellbehörden) or of the civil courts. The Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) is competent for the examination of energy prices for final customers being levied by energy suppliers operating on a nationwide basis.
